Rising Storm Island free content package assault adds new maps, weapons, modes

As if my plate wasn't full enough FPS already with MechWarrior Online, 3 weapon and Shadow Warrior, Tripwire Interactive just released a free update for Storm Rising (one of our favourite shooters of the year) and Red Orchestra 2 that adds a new map and a Multiplayer campaign mode, among other improvements.

The new map is Betio Beach cluttered with barracks and bunkers that puts Americans in the attack. Tripwire says that "recreates the push of United States Marine 2nd Division through the devastated island against their counterparts in the 6th special Naval landing force (the Japanese ' Marines ') as the United States forces attempt to disable the key tactical objectives as naval guns and transmitter stations. Map encourages pitched defenses and desperate attacks at all costs. "

Island assault also adds Multiplayer campaign mode, a longer format for Rising Storm and R02 multiplayer where individual scores affect a strategic map over multiple rounds. Also included are two new weapons: the PPS-42 for SMG R02 and the Japanese sniper rifle type 97 in Rising Storm, that Tripwire says it is "more accurate than the existing type 99 sniper rifle."

In coordination with the release of contents Rising Storm is free on Steam today through Sunday, Sept. 29.
