Welcome to Stabshank, a maximum security penitentiary that I'm about to flood with murderers, thieves, Pirates of games and other ruthless criminal scum. The best way to play prison architect is to start with the calmer, less minimum security stabby, then bring in psychopaths when security is stronger, but don't do that. I'm going to fill my basic capacity prison with some really, really bad people and a skeleton crew of guards.
As each truck of detainees in rolls, I'm going to pick one and follow them. I want to see how deep the simulation goes, and if their crimes dictate their behavior. You can track the life until they die, escape or are otherwise incapacitated.
Do not install metal detectors at the front gate or in the canteen, then any contraband – knives, drugs, forks, etc. – will be circulating freely. I do not want Stabshank too efficient or safe. I want these guys to get angry, because the angrier they get, the more likely they are to do something interesting. Namely stabbing.
Stabshank is open for business. The first truck pulls up and the prisoners down in the delivery area. I decided to focus on James Pritchard, of 50 years a prisoner with a criminal record longer than the Magna Carta. Is serving 15 years of a life sentence for a double murder, and I notice that he has managed to sneak in some garden shears. I could have ordered a guard to search for him instead of a metal detector, but I let him be. He probably won't stab someone with them.
Pritchard has a wife, four sons and a daughter, but he didn't see them any time soon. There are visitor to Stabshank. A guard takes him to his cell and I don't seem to notice the deadly garden equipment pushed down his pants leg. Immediately, I posed a problem. I forgot to fathom cell baths, then quickly sort my workers to do so – not realizing that this will lead to opening the door of the cell. Predictably, Pritchard uses this opportunity to bolt. But don't worry too much, because the area is blocked by two gates which can only access the guards.
More prisoners broke free, and a riot breaks out of the cell block. Pritchard, aided by another inmate and fellow assassin, attacking a guard with his shears. There is blood everywhere, but the guard is just fainted. Pritchard took the keys from his belt and run to the nearest port.
Before any other screws can come to quell the rebellion, they unlock it and make a run for it. Order a block to stop anyone else is running away, but it is too late. Pritchard and his friend fled and probably will kill again. Oops.
Order is restored, but the lack of an infirmary means that some guards and prisoners, are lying bloody and unconscious at the scene of the riot. Life isn't beautiful in Stabshank. It is night, and then accelerate the time and wait for the next batch of cons, which arrives at 8 sharp. John Cadwallader is our prisoner, a 34-year-old man accused of torture and forced captivity. Oh, how the tables have turned. He has no family and is serving ten years.
After getting used to his new cell, Cadwallader is escorted in the courtyard where he mingles with the other prisoners, occasionally lifting weights. While he's busy, remove all phones in Stabshank. This cuts off contact with prisoners and their families completely, which should make them nice and steamed up. Decide also to build some solitary cells. Unruly prisoners shove guards here, giving them time to cool down and think about what they did, or develop a hatred for pork, slow burning wimp who threw them there.
Camposano is disappointing sedate for a guy whose turn-ons include locking up people and torturing them. When it is not directed against prison architect or stabbing, are pretty boring, wandering back and forth aimlessly, eating, pumping iron, shower. Don't have a lot of personality, and their behavior seems to be determined only by their security status, not their crimes.
